stepped twin homes
architecture / udk
the distinction between 'theirs' and 'ours' informs how we divide ourselves into gated, nuclear home structures. what would a 'neighbour' relation look like if this distinction was questioned, or bridged, literally, by an intermediary form? what new social spaces could arise from shared terraces or gardens, spaces that we usually keep to ourselves?

what may have once been a simple, polite wave over a fence has now transformed into a long-winded conversation under the gentle shade of a birch tree, or the view of a night sky.
the overarched spaces, which are mirrored between the two houses, can double as garage spaces, which have their own logic for use as social, experimental, and intersectional spaces -- a childs rock band, or a tinkering workshop -- spaces which could benefit from being opened to the dynamism of spontaneous social interaction.
this project was a part of my application to a B.A. in architecture at the udk.
